AFAIK, the payment stuff does not work via bluetooth but via NFC (near field communication), basically a programmable RFID tag in your phone. it works only over very small distances (10cm), so thats why you have to hold your phone really near the reader device.
the whole bluetooth connection setup would be far too slow, just imagine scanning your bluetooth environment for that ticket machine in front of you, it would take ages.
i guess we will have to wait for the second or third incarnation of the iphone before it gets really interesting (no UMTS?? sheesh…)
Well come to think about it, an ewallet is just a bluetooth application, iphone does come with bluetooth; still it’s a closed platform; so we’ll have to wait for Jobs to come up with such app then claim apple innovated. Time machine anybody? :D
iphone will be outdated when it comes out in a few months, 2mp cam, 2.5G, i mean it sucks!
